
Signage
Signage is the design that is used to denote a symbol or is also used for communicating a message to a wider audience. Signage also denotes a sign that can be used for collective communication. It has been stated that the term “sign” has been in use from 1975 to 1980.
Sign in general is a form of visual graphic that is created for providing or podcasting a piece of information to the targeted audience. It is often intending to find the way through an area. These are also placed in streets or inside or near a building that will help in easy navigation. There is a wide range of signs that are available in general. The size and design of a sign are mainly decided on the location they are situated and their purpose. Based on these elements there are a variety of signs used such as banners, billboards, murals, smaller street signs, street name signs, lawn signs, and sandwich boards.
With the increasing trend on digital media and up-gradation of technology, digital and electronic signage is also common in recent days. The major purpose of signage is to convey a message to the targeted audience that will enable them to make the decision that is required. On the other hand, promotional signage can also be designed for the purpose of persuading a receiver to gain offers of a product or service. Based on the location and purpose, the contents of the sign will also be altered.
Signage is often confused with labeling. But they are completely two different elements. While signage is created with the motto of instructing, a label is done mainly for the cause of informing.

- Information provision:
Signage is one of the most useful and efficient methods that will aid in offering information regarding a service or a facility. These can be in the form of a map, directories, instructional signs, interpretive signage that are seen in museums, galleries, zoos, or parks.
- Direction:
These signs are highly useful in showing the direction to a particular location and help in the right navigation process. These signs are often seen in parking lots, and main roads, or vast grounds with arrows and lines to denote the direction.
- Persuasion:
Persuasion signs are also called promotional signage that is mainly used to promote a product and persuade a customer or the targeted audience to purchase a product or avail a service.
- Safety:
Regulatory signs are used for giving a warning or other safety instructions regarding a particular instrument or area. These can be in the form of warning signs, traffic signs, exit signs, and other similar kinds of signs.
